Clinical Services At The Bokamoso Private Hospital

Emergency & Urgent Care:
Will be available 24 hours per day, seven (7) days per week

Surgery:
Orthopedics, ENT, urology, endoscopic procedures, cranial and spinal neurosurgical procedures, cardio-vascular procedures, cataracts and other ophthalmology procedures.

Medicine:
Oncology diagnostics and treatment for higher incidence cancers, including surgery and chemotherapy, cardiology, including interventional cardiology, renal dialysis, pulmonology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology and dermatology specialty care.

Women & Children’s:
Obstetrics (no NICU), gynecology (including surgery), pediatrics and adolescent medicine.

Intensive Care:
Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Medical/Coronary Intensive Care Unit and ability to accommodate “high-care” patients who require a level of care less than intensive care but more than a general medical or surgical unit.

Diagnostics:
Radiology will include an MRI and a CT scanner, mammography, echo-cardiology, ultrasound, chest and general X-ray. Pathology will include comprehensive histopathology evaluations, poison-level testing, and drug-level testing and monitoring.

Extended Care Rehabilitation Center:
An extended care rehabilitation center in a separate facility attached to the main hospital will provide continuing rehabilitation care for trauma, cardiac, and elective orthopedic patients.

Ambulatory Services:
A broad range of general and specialty ambulatory care consultation services will be available in the Bokamoso Hospital Ambulatory Care Center, as well as potentially an in-town center.

Training At The Bokamoso Private Hospital

Relationship with Vanderbilt
  • During the hospital development period Vanderbilt University Medical Center will help oversee clinical recruiting, develop nurse and nurse practitioner training programs and lead in formulating hospital policies and procedures and clinical protocols.
  • Once the hospital is opened, in addition to continuing in these roles, Vanderbilt University will lead in monitoring clinical quality assurance and in other clinical governance areas.
Build a training program for nursing personnel
  • Program developed with Vanderbilt University School of Nursing (VUSON).
  • Program is 4 months plus one month orientation.
  • Focus on critical care, pediatrics and A&E.
  • General Nursing portion will be 6 weeks to build base.
  • Concepts of Adult Learning will be applied with use of case studies, and strong emphasis on clinical case presentations.
  • Faculty have been identified and approved by Dean at VUSON.
